Writing Workshop: Writing About Family Members – ROEN
Family members can be memorable for all sorts of reasons. The uncle who told stories that were filled with embellishment. The aunt who was the best mentor ever. The grandparent who spoiled us at every turn. The cousin who is an exemplary model of empathy and compassion. The sibling who brings out the best in us. The parent who loved us unconditionally. The child who makes us proud every day. The grandchild whom we spoil at after turn. We will discuss and write about family members whose words and deeds are etched in our memories.
Duane Roen ha estado rastreando sus raíces desde su adolescencia, construyendo una base de datos con más de 32,000 antepasados. Él y su esposa, Maureen Roen, también han estado registrando su historia familiar desde 1978 al escribir más de 19,000 entradas diarias en sus diarios sobre sus hijos y otros miembros de la familia. Combinando sus intereses profesionales y personales, Duane trabajó con colegas para establecer cursos sobre escritura y registro de historia familiar en la Universidad Estatal de Arizona. También es coordinador fundador del Proyecto para escribir y registrar la historia familiar en la Facultad de Ciencias y Artes Integrativas de ASU.
